We have heat, hot water, gas, and electricity (sort of) … Yeahhhh. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving up on the farm in the semi-converted barn studio. The propane is running the antique stove and the flash water heater now that we’ve got some batteries going.

We ran into a catch-22 on the electrical system’s inverter. It requires charged batteries to run but we can’t charge the batteries from the biodiesel generator without a working inverter. We ended up buying a few cheap marine batteries to bypass this problem while we refurbish and charge the antique Edison batteries. This also let us plug in the fridge and 2 lights over Thanksgiving which made things easier on us cooks. Before that we were just putting iceblocks in our “icebox” which basically was working too.

Hopefully we’ll have the PV system up and charging the Edison batteries in a few weeks. We have just a little more wiring to finish.
